Dear future me,
During this course, you have learned about a lot of people. All of them
have had something to say about something. I am here to remind you of the things you must always remember
throughout life. Consider me your little advisor on your conscious shoulder.
To start, remember Socrates. While they expressed many different
ways of thinking, the thing he was most known for was his statement on life. He said that no one does wrong
voluntarily. Evil is the result of ignorance. If people knew what was the right thing to do they would do it. We
always choose what we think is the best or good for us.
Another quote to add is:
I bring this quote because it should humble you. You’ve seen those people who brag and act like they “know it all,” when they don’t know shit. You must be honest with yourself and understand that there is so much information in the world, you won’t ever know everything. Because of that, you must act like you know nothing and want to learn. Develop the YEARNING to want to learn everything! Let the passion of not knowing anything make you want to know everything.
Another guy I want you to remember is Marcus Aurelius. He practiced Stoicism. For context, he was an emperor of Rome for a time. He wrote a book called Meditations, which included his inner thoughts as the emperor. Being a Stoic, he believed that the things you cannot control in your life must not be worried about. You must only worry about what you can control, such as your emotions. He has a simple quote I can put in here.
You can control your thoughts. You can control how you think about others. Have a good thought process for things in your life. This is key to being good.
Towards the end of the course, our class began to read a book titled:
This book dives deep into what we do day to day, and how capitalistic ideas have embedded themselves into our ways of thinking. One of the big concepts is that we have been taught to think that you must always be doing something “productive.” I want to tell you right now, you NEVER have to feel like you must always be doing something! There should be time where you are "productive" and time where you are in "maintenance mode." In "maintenance mode," you basically do nothing! It allows your brain to step away from what is stressing you and lets you really look at how things are going in life. I believe it is vital to making sure you're not overworking yourself to death! Don't forget about this whole concept, it is pretty game-changing!
Remember these people, future me. They hold strong lessons you can benefit from for the rest of your life. They
remind you of the things that are important in your life! Come back to this page to remember these people!
Thanks, future me.
